When you want to position your website in the top positions of Google you have to learn to think solely and exclusively about SEO and the optimization of your web pages. The great internet search engines does not just let any content rank on first page, it has to be worked for.
Before starting to list the necessary practices to optimize a site 100% for SEO, we have to keep in mind that only SEO does not get the job done. SEO is one of the important steps to help your website rank on google first page but it is not only needed to achieve google first page ranking.
Steps to optimize SEO
People often are not aware of how important a domain name is to positioning a website on first page. It is the first thing Google reads about your website (when I say Google I mean any search engine, you know). Therefore, the weight of the words that make up our domain will be enormous compared to the same keywords located elsewhere on the web. To give you an idea, I always tell my clients if they want to follow a branding strategy: like “www.cocacola.com” which does not mean anything directly in English, but is associated with Drinks because of its branding. Or go for an SEO strategy in your domain: “bestsoftdrink.com” that will be much easier to position, but less memorable.
In addition to the name, we should also choose a good TLD (Top domain server) which is the well-known file “.com”, “.ng” and other extensions. This is important because it will not position “Cocacola.ng” as well in South Africa as it does in Nigeria.
Use good hosting
We cannot overemphasize that loading speed is one of the factors that most determines the positioning of a website in search engines . For all the information to go lightning fast we have to get hold of a good hosting provider that quickly connects the server with the client that is requesting the information.
Data teleportation has not yet been invented, so a provider that is in Ghana will make a website load slower if those who visit that website are Spanish, than a server hosted in Ghana.
A website for humans
Google is never tired of telling us that we have to build our website for the people who visit it, not for spiders or search bots. This is why we have to give special importance to web usability and that users feel comfortable visiting our website. As I mentioned earlier that Google is quite choosy in terms of positioning factors and we cannot know for sure if the time a visitor stays on the web is a positive factor for SEO, but I will tell you one thing As it is, it is positive to increase conversions, to make a page where people want to spend a few more minutes than the average.
In addition, the bounce rate of our website or the CTR that a Google snippet has that points to our site, are factors that indicate to Google the quality of our website and, therefore, improve our positioning if we do it well.
The % html / text ratio that our website has is also one of the SEO positioning variables that must be taken into account, in addition to making it more attractive to humans, Google will favor us among its best positions. That ratio refers to the amount of code on a web page that is human-readable on a particular site. The more readable text, the better we will position.
Speed and lightness
Maybe the terms WPO or AMP are familiar to you or maybe not, just in case, I am going to do a brief explanation.
WPO : Web Performance Optimization. All the work we do on a website so that it loads faster and is easier to read by browsers and search bots.
From now on these acronyms should be used in your SEO strategies without overlooking them for a moment. The first takes in to account the time it take for your web pages to load and this will greatly impact your website position in search engine Currently Google considers a page dangerously slow when it takes more than 2 secs to load.
The second acronyms are so that we do not forget that the share of visits to the webs through mobile devices is increasing more and more, so we have to treat mobile searches in a better way, giving life to the load of the pages that we want to be seen from those devices.
There are countless tools that measure loading speed, but I recommend Google’s favorite par excellence that also shows us how to solve performance problems: Google Speed Insights.
Study of keywords to close SEO On-page
Keywords are the first thing that comes to mind when we think about SEO. Perhaps because everyone who is beginning to learn how to optimize a website for Google sees this as a greatest.
Keywords are very important, clearly, but you have to know what makes them important. If we have a website and we want to optimize it, we do not have to be super meticulous with our words by writing them over and over again, since we will tire the reader and Google knows that (it has legibility factors for the texts).
We must write about a specific topic , without deviating too much, to make content interesting for readers. These topics are governed by a keyword study that we must carry out. We have to ask ourselves questions such as: what does our business revolve around? Or what doubts our users may have about our products or the complementary ones?
It is highly recommended that a work be done on empathy with users to know how we search in Google, but basically it is in three ways:
Informative words : Those searches that want to end with a specific question “how to change a car wheel?” (perfect for SEO)
Transactional words : Those looking for an immediate solution “Mechanic in Lagos” (meat of Google Ads)
Brand Words : Those who already know indicate who they want to meet “Roadside Assistance Kingman” (Difficult to compete)
When we realize that the vast majority of traffic enters the webs organically thanks to informative words, we will do our study of Keywords, relying on tools such as “semrush” semrush is one of the best if not the best tool for keyword research, website Audit and SEO analytics and even backlinks research all are included in smerush tool. Optimize SEO outside of your website
We cannot just stay with what is called “SEO On-page” but we will have to go beyond our website to optimize our SEO with one of the factors that currently weighs the most for Google: Backlinks.
The Backlinks are those links that point to our website from outside it. That is, another page other than ours has trusted our content and has sent its readers to ours to continue reading on a topic or to supplement their information.
For Google, these links are worth gold and it stores data for each page called “Page rank” that is currently hidden, but indicates the reliability index that Google has on a website. If one of our posts were linked by a page that Google blindly trusted, we would end up being pushed up the Google rankings.
In addition, from outside our website we must always have active social networks and in which our articles are shared naturally, since it also indicates to Google that our content is of quality for the reader.
